The desire for a new skatepark in Peterborough has been a long-burning flame. Past groups have tried, honourably, to take up the mantle, but progress has been challenging and the dialogue has been frustrating. You may have even been on one of the Peterborough skateboard committees in the past. But something feels different today…
Voices are growing louder. New faces have joined our community. And the demand for more skateboarding is at an all-time high – especially in this pandemic era and when skateboarding is set to make its Olympic debut. So we all started talking together again…
It soon became apparent that there were even more skateboarders and skatepark users in Peterborough than we thought; hiding away in their own corners of the community, many of them too put off by the current park to ever skate it, opting instead to travel to outlying communities who are all building great new parks. Eventually, enough of us came together, from different age groups and backgrounds, as one unit to move forward with a vision and a mission to improve skateboarding in Peterborough.
The Peterborough Skateboard Coalition is a made up of volunteers with different professional skillsets and passions, and we are always looking for more people to join our cause. We have already taken some big steps towards our primary objective of seeing an all-new skatepark get built by the City of Peterborough. We have established a great working relationship with members of council, we have clear goals in mind for our community, and our coalition is growing. Stay connected with us on this website and on Instagram (@ptbo.skate) over the next many months as we continue to work towards making Peterborough a better place to skate.
